Impact on the parkland

Impact on the parkland - The new Royal Children's Hospital project

Construction of the new RCH has been carefully managed to ensure minimal disruption to Royal Park’s flora and fauna and this will continue as Stage 2 works progress. There will be no loss of parkland as a result of the new RCH Project.

The project’s vegetation plan focuses on avoiding impact wherever possible by using protection zones, and clearly identifies vegetation to be retained. A program for the protection, relocation and replacement of any vegetation impacted by construction activities has been developed.

The final size of the new RCH will be no greater than the existing 4.1 hectare site. Legislation called the
Royal Children's Hospital (Land) Act has been enacted to enshrine the Victorian Government’s commitment to returning the existing site to parkland.
