Easier to get to and get around - The new Royal Children's Hospital

Easier to get to and around

With the following features, getting to and finding your way around the new RCH will be much easier:

  • The new RCH will include over 2,000 underground car park spaces - that's almost twice the existing number.
  • All access to the new hospital will be from Flemington Road. There will be separate entrances for visitors, ambulances and goods traffic.
  • A patient drop-off and pick-up zone will be located at the front door.
  • A tram superstop will be built, making it easier for families with prams or wheelchairs.
  • There will be 500 bike spaces with shower and change facilities located nearby.
  • Just as every Victorian town has a main street, so to will the new RCH. 'The street' will be the main public thoroughfare from the Flemington Road entry through to Royal Park.
  • Outpatient services will be located off the 'The Street'. 'The Street' will link into the inpatient building.
  • Colour and floor patterns will be used to help people of all cultures and backgrounds find their way.
  • A 2-storey coral reef aquarium will bring nature into the heart of 'The Street', and also mark the entry to emergency.
